Delegating Your Time

When I commit to doing something I put my all into it by 150%. I have been like that ever since I can remember. Even as a child, when a school project/speech/essay/etc. were due I would focus completely 150% on every detail until I had reached the final result that I was completely happy with.

Now this particular trait in a person is not necessarily a bad thing. But....when you are a mom and a wife and you have a home based business you've got to learn to delegate your time so that every aspect of your life gets the full attention it needs.

One of the most important things I believe that anyone can do for themselves when starting a business venture is to first create a vision of what your life will be like once you reach your desired goals. Keep that vision with you constantly, write it down, think about it when you wake up and when you go to sleep at night. Without a vision what are we left with?

Second , create a business plan. Include your daily/weekly/monthly goals to begin with. Also, it's always good to have a yearly goal in mind when you begin, to keep you excited about the long term future. As you continue in your business you can always expand and re-work your goals to fit your newly acquired success.

As you continue in your business you will learn what does and what does not work for you, and can then re-asses your business plan to fit all of your needs as you grow. (Remember: Success is Failure Turned Inside Out")

If you have a family, a spouse, children it is extremely important to include WHEN and WHEN NOT you will be working! Decide when and for how long you are going to work each day (or if you are going to work every other day). You get the picture. Be specific with your priorities and what you truly have to accomplish every day, (family time, spouse time, children time, housework, etc., etc).

Set aside specific hours and times that you will be working. Let everyone in your family know that this is your working time (just like if you had a job outside the home). When you are done with your designated working time, then it is time for all other aspects of your life.

Now, this can always vary a bit depending on what kind of a business you have. If you receive a lot of phone calls, I would suggest letting them go to voicemail when you are having strictly Family Time.

Remember, your children and your spouse are a HUGE part of why you are doing this in the first place. If you lose sight of them during the process of building your business, then in all truth you will actually lose what was most important in your life to begin with.

I mean seriously, if you have children, I would probably be correct in assuming that about 90% of your reason for getting involved in the first place is, "For Them" (RIGHT)? If you're married then at least 90% of you're reason for getting involved is to better your quality of life, and have the ability to give you and your spouse financial security (RIGHT)?

Also, before I forget. This is REALLY IMPORTANT!! Set aside at least 30 minutes every single day for yourself. "YOU TIME". I cannot stress enough how important it is to have you time. If you work out, if you meditate, do yoga, whatever you do set aside AT LEAST 30 minutes every day for yourself. Honestly, I would say an hour or two but....as a mother of 4 I know that sometimes that is an impossible feat in itself.

If I am wrong on any of these points then just ignore me. I mean hey, it's only my opinion and as the old saying goes (Opinions are Like A*#H@!ES) Everybody's got One!
But... if I am right in my assumptions then listen carefully because these words of advice could mean everything to your final outcome.

So in summation, Create a vision, a one of a kind inspired by you and only you vision of what you want your life and your business to be.
Create a business plan. Include your short term and long term goals in this plan.
And last but in my opinion most important of all, Delegate Your Time!!
